Programs   Joseph Kenol Linking Lean-Six Sigma to Financial, Quality and Environmental Management Systems, and Information Technology

Lean and Six Sigma are two programs aimed at improving the quality of an organization's operations and impacting the financial results of an organization. Both concentrate on customer satisfaction and improved business performance.

In this presentation Dr. Sandford Liebesman will look at how Lean-Six Sigma (LSS) links to financial management, ISO standards 9001 and 14001 and information technology. The projects implemented as part of the LSS program generate value to the customer and to the organization. However, they cannot operate in a vacuum. They require effective financial, quality, environmental, and other management systems. On the other hand, these management systems can be greatly improved by using LSS to provide valuable changes which in most cases, if implemented correctly, result in positive effects to the organization's bottom line.

NEQC November 2008 Report
Sandy Liebesman, NEQC Representative

The NEQC 57th Conference was held Monday October 13 to Friday October 17, 2008. This was one of the best conferences I have attended.

Four tracks of presentations were held on Tuesday and Wednesday. I presented the topic "Risk Management: Essential in Today's Global Economy" on Tuesday. I had a full house and received many positive responses from attendees.

There were a number of excellent talks at the conference. The ones that I felt were in that category are:
Paula Esty talked about changes to OHSAS 18001
Joe Azary reviewed outsourcing in the medical device industry.
Baskar Kotte: reviewed the changes in ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2000.
Jay Patel talked about the changing roles of quality professionals.
Gabe Crognale talked about greenhouse gas emissions and green manufacturing.

I discussed the Spring Qulity Conference with the NEQC leadership and got an agreement to publicize the conference when the program is complete. I will send them information for posting on their web site. Also, we should send information to individual sections of NEQC.
