2008-2009 General Section Meeting Calendar

General Section Meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the La Quinta on Rte. 46 in Fairfield unless other plans are made. Meetings begin at 6:00 PM with dinner at 6:30 PM and the program at 7:30 PM.

Professional Biographical Profile

Sanford Sorkin

Mr. Sorkin has over forty years of experience in technology related fields covering a wide range of development and management activities. Since 1980 he has written over 20 textbooks and training manuals used extensively in the United States and Canada. Translations of the material also have been prepared for use in other countries. He has managed large-scale projects as a consultant and as the owner of a software company. Mr. Sorkin is the founder and past president of Sanford M. Sorkin Associates, a management consulting and training organization. He is also the past president of Coastal Technologies, the developers of customized software, software packages, and web based development, and New Instruction, Inc., a worldwide training organization offering on-site and public seminars.

Since completing the sale of his businesses in 2001 and starting a teaching career at Temple University, he has become an active participant in charitable and non-profit organizations. Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors of the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia and the PAL Scholarship Foundation. He is also participates on multiple boards and committees with the Methodist Home for Children of Philadelphia.

Since 2001, he has organized approximately ten projects per year for his students. Each development effort becomes an opportunity for students to apply their information technology skills as they are introduced into the workings of business world. These projects have resulted in student employment, essential resume experience, business contacts, persuasive references, and have been a significant component of graduate school applications. He also serves as the Faculty Chair of the CIS Advisory Board.

His industry experience is in pharmaceuticals, finance, defense systems, education, manufacturing, insurance, engineering, and a number of other fields that required technical assistance or training. He has served as an investor and advisor for numerous startup ventures and continues to consult on long range plans and products.
